I connected the Trello app to Slack and linked my Slack channel to a specific Trello board.
I also set a default list in Slack (e.g., “High Priority”) so that new cards created from Slack messages should go to that list instead of the default Inbox.

However, when I click “Create Trello card” from a Slack message, the following happens:

  • The card is always created in the Inbox list, not in the list I selected as default.

  • The pop-up window that should allow me to choose the list, due date, and members does not appear at all.

  • I have already run /trello link and re-linked the board successfully. Slack shows that the default list was changed.

  • I am using the Slack desktop app, and Trello is fully connected.

I would like to know how to fix this so that:

  • I can select the target list (or at least the default list is respected).

  • The pop-up for setting due date and members appears when creating a card.

Has anyone faced this issue or found a way to solve it?

Hi @Suzuki ,

Welcome to the community!

Currently, the behavior you're experiencing is part of the existing functionality. To add a card to a specific board,  Here's what you can do:

  1.  In Slack, make sure you've set your Trello settings to "Allow card customization"

  2.  When you choose "Create card from message Trello" from a Slack message options, you should be able to uncheck the "Inbox" option and select your desired board. Unfortunately, this needs to be done each time, as unchecking the default "Inbox" list isn't ideal.

We understand it is not ideal to uncheck this every time and a bug has been logged to address this issue. You can watch the progress of this bug here: TRELLO-1485  for updates on a potential fix.

Hi @Nivedhya Vikram

Thank you so much for your help!
I followed your suggestion and enabled “Allow card customization” in Slack.
Now I can uncheck the “Inbox” option and select my desired list when creating a card from a Slack message — it’s not perfect, but it works for what I needed.

I really appreciate your clear explanation and the info about the logged bug (TRELLO-1485). I’ll keep an eye on the updates there. Thanks again!
