I would like to create a board in Trello where I can give a few people editing rights and allow the rest to only view it. The board should not be public. Can I do this with a free account, or what would I need for that?

Unfortunately, this is only possible starting with the Premium plan. On the Free and Standard plans, all private board members have editing rights by default.

To give some people view-only access, you need the Observer role. As shown in the screenshots, this specific role is a Premium feature and requires an upgrade.
