Hello! I'm a solo user of Trello and I have a few automations on hand to keep my board organized. Is there a way to reorganize/reorder the rules so that they activate from the top down?
For my specific example, Rule 1 says, "Every day, create a unique card with title 'Card Title' in list 'Daily Tasks'", and after that, I created Rule 2, which says, "Every day, archive each card marked as complete in list 'Daily Tasks'". But the new rule is automatically added to the bottom, so when Rule 1 checks to see if the card exists, it hasn't been archived yet and the rule does nothing. I haven't found a way to drag Rule 2 to activate before Rule 1 so that completed cards get archived and a new, functionally identical card gets added. It seems I would have to delete Rule 1 and rewrite it so it will be added to the bottom.
Ultimately I am trying to create a list of tasks which need to be listed as incomplete at the start of every day. Trello does not seem to have a built-in automation for marking preexisting (or copied) cards as incomplete, so I'm trying to work around it by archiving completed cards and replacing them with new ones.
Thanks for any help!
You have 2 options:
Option 1
Keep your current automations but set the trigger to be different times:
Rule 1
Every day at 04:00, create a unique card with title "Card Title" in list "Daily tasks"
Rule 2
Every day at 03:00, archive each card marked as complete in list "Daily Tasks"
Option 2 (my preference)
Merge the rules into 1, both actions have the same trigger so you don't need 2 separate rules:
Every day, archive each card marked as complete in list "Daily Tasks" and create a unique card with title "Card Title" in list "Daily tasks"
Thanks for your answer! This sounds like it should work, but I gave Option 2 a shot and it's not currently changing anything on my board. The rule is written as follows:
"Every day at 1:00 am, archive each card marked as complete in list "Daily Tasks", create a unique card with title "[Card Title]" in list "Daily Tasks" ...
I repeat the "create a unique card" section a bunch of times for every card I want in my "Daily Tasks" list. But even when I use the "Run Now" function, my "Daily Tasks" list isn't populating with new cards.
Am I making some kind of logic error where if the "archive" part doesn't happen, the "create" part won't trigger? My goal is that when the scheduled rule triggers, everything marked as complete gets archived and an identical, incomplete card replaces every completed one. If I didn't complete a card on the list, nothing has to happen to it. I'm not quite clear on what I'm missing since this rule seems functionally the same.
(Also, on my original question about drag-and-drop reorganizing rules, it sounds like I was correct that there's no way to accomplish that without rewriting the rules — is that accurate?)
