Hello,

I am unable to access my Trello board because my company forgot to renew an old email domain before I had a chance to change it. I now am being asked for a email verification code but with that email domain being completely switched off I am not getting the code.

I have the email and password and despite that I am still locked out with no alternative options.

Can someone help? I have the board url, passwords and relevant email ids. Please let me know next steps.

Thank you!

Hi @Stephanie Serino

It is very unfortune that this happened..

I am afraid that when you lost access to your mail it might be hard to recover with old account. At least this is what we can read from a similar case here wher @Blair at Atlassian describe it in more details.

I have marked this question so that someone could confirm if anything changed in this matter.

Maybe @Blair at Atlassian we could have a KB article created about this?

Hi @Mirek Thanks so much for your input here. There can often be some nuance here depending on the specific account configuration. It is important to note that this is typically an Atlassian account login requirement rather than a Trello-specific setting, but we have an article that addresses this topic in the Trello documentation space here.

@Stephanie Serino - it sounds like you are encountering the standard Identity Verification One-Time Password (OTP) requirement. This security measure is triggered when the system detects a login attempt that requires additional verification: Login issues related to identity verification | Atlassian Support.

  • For this situation, access to your email inbox is required to obtain the One Time Password (OTP).
    • Check with your IT admin and see if they can get access to the email inbox for the purpose of getting the OTP code for you.
    • Check to see if you're still logged into your account on another device. In that case, you can invite an email address that you have access to the inbox. Or, if someone else on the board still has access, they could invite another one of your email addresses (one where you have access to the associated email inbox).

Hello @Stephanie Serino

Sorry to hear this happened! A couple of things to try:

First, check if your Trello account was ever linked to a Google or Microsoft login, if so, you can bypass the email verification entirely from the login screen.

If not, your best bet is to reach out directly to Atlassian Support at support.atlassian.com. You don't need to be logged in. Just bring your old email, board URL, and any proof of ownership you have. They've helped people in similar situations before.

Also worth asking a colleague with admin access on the board to re-invite you on a new email address as a quick workaround.

Hope you get it sorted soon let us know how it goes! 🙂
