Hi,
I had a personal Trello board that was very important to me and was mostly worked on during 2021 and 2022, possibly a bit in 2023. Since then, I put that project on hold and so did not visit the board.
Now, I wanted to continue the project, but when logging in Trello with my email, I was prompted to create a new account. I did, but the account appears empty, and there are no Trello boards open, not even anything under the inactive/deleted boards section.
Only then I found that I had emails from Trello in 2025, none of which made it through my email filter. The last one from Nov 24 says that I need to login otherwise my data will be deleted on Nov 25 (so one day notice), due to being inactive for 2 years.
Please, is there any way Trello would still be able to recover the board or at least its data, in whichever format?
I understand that it was my mistake to assume the board wouldn't get deleted due to inactivity. But any help would me much, much appreciated.
Happy to provide my email and other details to a respective Trello support agent.
Thank you.
Hi Šimon,
I hope you're doing well, and welcome to the Atlassian Community! 😊
I'm truly sorry to hear about the situation with your Trello account. I completely understand how important your project was, and how upsetting it must be to lose access to it.
You are correct about Trello’s inactivity policy: accounts on free plans that remain inactive for two years are scheduled for deletion. We do send reminder emails before this happens. For your reference, here’s the official policy document:Dormant Trello account policy.
Unfortunately, once an account and its data are deleted under this policy, we’re unable to recover them. I know this is disappointing news, and I’m truly sorry for any frustration this has caused.
However, there is a small possibility that might help:
If your board had other members whose accounts are still active, the board itself would not have been deleted—only your access would have been removed.
If you think this could be the case, I recommend reaching out to any other members of the board or its Workspace and asking if they can add you back.
I genuinely wish I had a better solution for you. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please let us know—we’re here to help.
Thank you for reaching out, and take care.
