Label Management: Deleting a Label from a Board if it is not applied to any Cards on the Board.

Question:

• I want to find out if there is a way to automatically delete a label as one of the label options when there are no cards with that specific label applied on that board.

Scenario:

• We create a specific label each project.
• Each project has multiple cards, so adding this label to all the related cards is a great way to quickly filter between different projects.
• The specific label will not be used again once the project is done (in our case, we move the cards to a different board). 
• As a result of this workflow, we have a long list of redundant card labels that linger on the board.

Current solution:

• Right now we need to do manual "house keeping" by going through many boards and deleting redundant labels.

Desired solution:

• To have a setting or Butler rule that deletes a label from a board if it is not applied to any of the cards on that board.
• We have created a reference card called "Board Labels" that have the default labels applied to it. This means that there will always be at least one card with the labels applied that should not be deleted.
• So the moment there is label on a board that is not applied to at least one card, it can be deleted.

Welcome to the Community! It's a good question but unfortunately I don't think this would be possible.

A Butler rule would be able to remove labels from cards although it would need to be attached to an event (such as moving cards) which would then prompt the removal of the label from the card however it wouldn't be able to delete the label from the label options - which is what you're asking, right?

If you just want to get rid of the label completely because you don't need it anymore etc., on the board you would need to go in and edit the label and click the delete button.

Yes, you are correct in your understanding (that we want it removed from the board, not from a card). Your approach to deleting the label is how we are currently doing it.

It is a pity that there is not a way to automate this.
