I cannot add a new teammate on the System Owners - F&E Dashboard.

We’ve invited the new member to join our board/space, but we keep receiving a notification saying we’re unable to add them and that we need to contact the admin. The issue is that I am already an admin of our Trello workspace/space, so I’m unsure why the system is preventing the approval or access.

We’ve tried the following troubleshooting steps multiple times:

Logging out and back in
Asking the new member to log out and log back in
Resending the board/space invite
Re-attempting the join process


Unfortunately, the issue still persists, and I’m unable to grant them access.

Could you please check if there are any permission, billing, workspace limits, or admin-related restrictions affecting our account?

Hi!

The key here is that there's a difference between being a Trello Workspace admin and an Atlassian Organization admin — these are two separate roles.

When the error says "contact the admin," it most likely refers to your Atlassian Organization admin, not the Workspace admin. Even as a Workspace admin, you may be restricted by organization-level policies set by someone above you (usually IT).

Here's what to check:

1. Atlassian Organization restrictions
- Go to https://admin.atlassian.com/
- Check if your organization has domain restrictions or user policies that limit who can be added
- If you don't have access to this console, then someone else (likely IT) is the Organization admin — that's who you need to contact


2. Seat/billing limits
- Go to Workspace → Settings → Billing
- Check if you've reached your plan's member limit — if all seats are filled, you'll need to add more seats before inviting anyone


3. The new member's side
- Their Atlassian Organization might block them from joining external workspaces (common in corporate environments)
- Ask them to check if their account is managed by their company


4. Workspace membership settings
- Go to Workspace → Settings → Workspace members
- Check the "Who can join this Workspace" setting

Most likely scenario: Your company has an Atlassian Organization set up (possibly by IT), and it has policies restricting member additions.
