Is Trello meets my needs?

TAHA RAJ December 17, 2022

Dear support:

Hello

We are a team with starting 10 members,

We will recruit new members and need to have a project management tool organizing the work flow and etc.

We are checking the different platforms and compare them to each other, but as there is no much time to do free trial of all, we have some questions about what we may need in our team and if your software may meet it.

We will appreciate if you can make our questions clear,

1 – we may buy a package with 10 users (Ex. yearly paid) and start, then we will need to add new members one by one during the time, is it possible? What about billing process for each new user?

2 – if there are some undone tasks in a specific time, is there any kind of automation which reassign this task to another member, or update new due dates automatically? (Auto reassign)

3 – is there any auto task system? If yes, may I have a user guide video link or file?

4 – is there any limitation for multi tasks or sub-tasks dependency connections?

5 – what types of importing files are supported?

6 – what types of exporting files are supported? (Data driven and graphically)

7 – about notifications, when manager assigns someone a new task, the member will get informed right? And also, manager will get informed when some tasks are ticked as done or some changes happened in task status right?

8 – what is the practical communicating system among team members with each other or with manager? (Chat, task comments, ...)

Hope to hear from you ASAP,

My mail address: taha_w4u@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

  1. See https://trello.com/en/pricing
  2. Not natively, you'll need to do some configuration
  3. Not really, you'll need to do some configuration, although I don't know what you want from an "auto task" system
  4. No, but Trello is not an issue tracker and doesn't really have any hierarchy
  5. None, but you can add power-ups that allow cards to be imported from CSV and other files
  6. As #5
  7. Trello isn't an issue tracker, it does not natively have a notion of "status", you have to configure it
  8. Whatever system you want to use for communication - most can be set up to work alongside Trello

While Trello can be set up to do issue tracking quite easily, you need to add power-ups to add some of the functions you're asking about.

I'd suggest you take a look at Jira Software instead, as you seem to be asking for an issue tracker.  If I were to answer the questions for Jira instead of Trello, we get

  1. See https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/pricing
  2. Yes, you can easily configure an Automation to do this
  3. Probably, with an Automation, although I don't know what you want from an "auto task" system
  4. Jira software has an Epic -> Issue -> Sub-task hierarchy built in and has an issue-linking system you can easily use for dependency management.
  5. Jira can import issues from CSV, JSON and Trello.  Apps can provide other importers.
  6. Issue lists can be exported to CSV, XML, RSS, HTML, and XLSX.  Individual issues can also be exported to Word.  Apps can provide other exporters (there are some excellent apps for exporting to PDF).
  7. The default configuration for projects does this, and you have a load of flexibility about who you notify on all sorts of issue events.
  8. Whatever system you want to use for communication - most can be set up to work alongside Jira.

Hi.
Thank you very much.
I checked Jira as well, i will check the details,
About auto tasks, as further information, lets consider we have a project with so much tasks have to be done, but right now the members are not enough to handle it all, by the way, there are some tasks are dependent to some other tasks have to be done first,
Tasks for department A     ,
-There is 5 members in department A,
- There is 100 tasks imported to system,(A to Z), should be done in department A
- Lets consider manager assigned first 20 tasks among the members, manager wants to assign new task automatically for each member, once they finished each of old tasks and updated the status as Done,
- Or maybe if someone couldn't finish his/her task on time, then automatically give ex.10 days more to finish the task, or maybe take that task from member1 and assign it to member2,
- Like department A, there will be other departments too, which there will be some dependent tasks that have to be done first in department A then will continued by department B for example.
- There maybe some dependent sub tasks too, which may need automation to handle...

@TAHA RAJ

Trello does not handle these dependencies natively. You have to built these into your board design to implement the parent child relationships, predecessor/ successor, etc with a proper hierarchy structure. With the above in place you can add other automation rules to it.
I built one for a game developer. You can build one too. Or use another software.

@milynnus is completely right here.

Trello is absolutely the wrong tool for your organisation.  Trying to do this all in Trello is going to tie up your administrators for years, and waste most of your users time too.

You need, or want, a proper issue tracker for this.  Of course, the Atlassian community is going to recommend Jira for that - it is the best issue tracker you will ever find. (end of advert).  In all seriousness though, Trello can't do what you are asking for.  Jira can.  So can some of Jira's competitors.

Whatever level of Atlassian-nerd I am, I still do want you to go use the best option for you.  With your level of sophistication, it's not Trello.
