Is it possible to remove custom fields on a card without deleting them from other cards within the same board.

@Patricia Scott note that although as @Michael Pryor says you can't pick fields to go on individual cards that you can hide them from the front of the card, and only fields that have values will show on the front of the card. But they're always visible on the card back for all cards on the board.

You might find that you're able to reduce the total number of custom fields you need to use by using labels, lists and due dates instead. Often when I look at someone's custom fields implementation they could have replaced several dropdowns with labels, and often fields that use dropdowns to indicate "state" can be eliminated by creating a list to represent that state instead.

Unfortunately there is no way to do this. The fields are set at the board level.
