Can you simple stop the use of custom fields without losing the data in them.

We have moved from Tasks in MS Teams to Trello and have used custom fields to ensure all data is migrated. The fields are only for us on migrated cards, so we do not want them showing on new cards. Is there a way to do this?

Hi @Stuart Curran

Not that I'm aware of - you can't hide/disable a field as such, you'd have to delete it.

If you do delete them though, it also removes all the data in that field - and there is no way to undo this deletion/removal of data.

I would recommend either...

  • Moving the data to system fields and/or custom fields you intend to keep using
  • Consider merging all the other custom field data into the Description field, to keep as a history?

See more information on custom fields on this help page.

Hi @Ste Wright thank you for the advice. We have added them as custom fields but are going to see if we can get by leaving the them blank for new tasks. (i.e. only migrated tasks will have them completed).

Two of the fields we have carried over are Task ID and Creation Date which are system generated. Presumably Trello will have something similar.
