I don't like that the downloads cover up the menu at the bottom of the board (I use the "switch boards" button constantly).
I hit the X to make that download thing disappear every single time. I can find the file in my downloads folder and don't need or want it to also be covering up my menu. Quite annoying!
Please tell me there is a way to make this stop happening.

If you are using the MacOS app then I don't think there is a way to change it, but if you are using a browser (Chrome/Safari), then you can change the browser setting to not show the download notification
