Can somebody explain the difference between a "user" (as billing is"per user") and "collaborator"?

We are wanting to upgrade our account. The pricing is determined "per user" - we want the option with "unlimited collaborators". Is it possible to just have one "user" and then add everybody else as "collaborators"? What's the difference?

A "collaborator" is an umbrella term for the various types of users... So a collaborator is someone with a username/password

  • A 'paid' workspace user is one type of collaborator that can see/join all boards (You pay for these)
  • A 'Multi-board guest' (aka guest of more than one board) is another collaborator type... These types of users you also pay for
  • A 'Single board guest' is another type of collaborator that as the name indicates only is a guest on a single board in your workspace... Such user are free in Paid Trello Accounts (In free accounts this concept does not exist)
  • Last collaborator type is a 'Join Request' user which is a user that you have invited but they have not yet accepted the

Hi @Elysha Paige ,

As far as I can gather from https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/workspace-user-limit/, it seems like 'collaborators' are only relevant for Free plans. Once you start moving to any of the Paid plans, it works differently. Also see https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/board-guests/.
