EDIT/TL;DR
Can observers invite others? The bots and documentation are contradictory and confusing.
Was looking at the setting for workspace members to be on x-domain only.
This question on the community appeared to imply that Workspace membership restrictions turned on to "Only specific email domains" only affects team and/or board members, not workspace guests as observers.
(I had always assumed the domain restriction would prevent that.)
I do want observers to be able to join boards, so that's good.
I asked the support bot and it says:
[...] your understanding is correct: the domain restriction for Workspace membership does not extend to board guests (including observers) by default.
Looking at the phrasing under "Sharing boards with guests: Anybody can send or receive invitations to boards in this Workspace" I get confused.
So no, I do not want anybody to send or receive invitations, only team members.Yet the option to turn that on or off says:
"Only workspace members: workspace boards can only be shared with members of this workspace."
No, I do want boards to be shared with observers, just not have them invite others. So I asked the bot how I need to read this and it says:
You want:
Boards to be shared with observers (who may be guests).
Only Workspace members to be able to send invitations (i.e., prevent guests/observers from inviting others).
Currently, Trello does not offer a granular permission to allow guests/observers to be added to boards but prevent them from inviting others.
Really? Is there no way to have observers observe and not have them share it?
[INBETWEEN UPDATE]
Now the "search' bot (not the 'chat' bot!) says:
Observers themselves cannot invite others to the board. Only board admins or Workspace admins have the ability to invite new members or change permissions.
So what is it?
I can't find anything about this in the documentation on observers, the bots are confused, and I assume (!) as an admin I would get a notification if this happens (?) but is any solution to this in the pipeline?
Cheers!
