I'm trying to add a checklist when creating a recurring card in the automation, but for some reason I can't get the checklist items to be created. Can someone walk me through the exact steps? Thank you!

If you already have an automation set up to create a recurring card, you can start your new automation with the trigger "when a card is added to the board" or "when a card is added to the list." To access more options, turn on the "Advanced" settings. From there, you can add a filter using the name of the card, for example.
Next, navigate to the "Checklists" tab. If the checklist is already created in another card, you can add an action to add that checklist from that card by specifying the link. If the checklist doesn't exist yet, you can add the action "add an empty checklist named ____ to the card."
Finally, you can use the action "add item ____ to checklist ____" to include each item in the checklist.
