I'm hoping to take a certification exam soon, but the requirements for preparing a room at my home are daunting - I don't think there's a room in my house where I can meet all the requirements! We have a fairly open floor plan and my personal style could be charitably called eclectic maximalism, so I'd have to move a LOT of stuff to have a bare space.
I started thinking about local libraries' reservable study rooms, paid co-working spaces, or even an office at my workplace, but I'm concerned about the lack of control I would have in those spaces. (Glass doors and windows, people coming and going outside the direct study room...)
Has anyone found a way to make online exams work in a place that isn't your house?
@Anne Saunders , some coworking spaces have meeting rooms where you can close a door; not cheap but may be an option.
Library may work too, maybe ask the librarian in advamce and explain the situation?
You can also ask a friend / family member
I recently had a test with Certiverse (2 weeks ago).
I used a room where I can close the door , and a foldable table; everything else was out of reach.I had to take off my smartwatch.
My internet crashed mid test, so I had to use my phone hotspot ...
I once took a certification from my daughters room, sat on a chair and had the laptop on top of a laundry bin.
I also took one from the "meditation room" at work. It was all glass walls, but I was able to pull down roller blinds almost to the bottom for it. I was also able to book the room and lock the door so I had peace.
As crazy as this sounds, I have taken proctored exams in my bathroom. Close the door and I'm good. lol There is no tech in the bathroom and I open the shower curtain to show that no one was there.
Thanks so much for all this good feedback.
I don't know if I could handle hours in our laundry room, but our primary bath may actually be the answer to my prayers, and it never even crossed my mind!
I've also taken one at home in the past, I had a dedicated room where I could close the door, but had some knickknacks and things on my desk, the proctor just asked me to cover them with a towel/blanket. I do think it depends on the proctor you get. :) Thankfully there is a place in my city where I can go take the exam proctored by them, so I do that now, way easier.
In my experience, I think a booked meeting room is the best fit for the exam. Because you have to stay in a room without distractions, with clean tables, otherwise the proctor can cancel your exam. Also glass windows are not recommended, because people can pass by and the exam could be at risk, if the proctor is very strict.
I had all my exams in booked meeting rooms and worked for me!
