Why am I not able to login to my Atlassian account while installing Sourcetree on my mac

While installing sourcetree on my mac (running High Sierra 10.13.6) I'm asked to login to use an existing Atlassian account which I have. When I click the button a new window comes up asking me to login. I enter my email hit continue and the word continue disappears from the blue button, an edit icon shows up next to my login name but a password box never appears and it just sits like this until I cancel.

bizarrely it was my docking station. When I'm using the MacBook by itself the password box comes up.
