Which directory to put the file to import in the confluence server

Hi team,

I'm working on importing a wiki space exported from a confluence instance to another confluence. In the Import page, it shows I need to put the exported file in the confluence server. I've tried to put it in serveral directories, but it all fails with error "The directory specified does not exist, or cannot be accessed." Could you please give me some clue on where should I put the file. And how to name the exported file for the system to recognize and import it?

Hi @qiuying Welcome to the Atlassian community.

You can import the space in two ways like from local drive if you have saved that space XML backup file to your local server or you can put that file in Restore folder in Confluence home directory <confluence-home>/restore/space and select the backup file name to import the same.

Thanks for your answer.

I read the instructions in the link you provided, and it's about import/restore from general configuration. I have a concern though about this. Since there are lots of spaces in our confluence, I'd like to know if the importing/restoring would not affect other spaces even the importing fails. If the answer is yes, then I can be confident to do the importing.

Hi @qiuying There are minimal chances space import can affect, as mentioned in the document the space you are importing lets say with space key ABC then there should not be any space already present on the importing instance as it will cause an issue due to space key conflict.

It is recommended to the take a full Confluence backup before importing the space and import it on weekend so that in case anything goes wrong you can import the backup to have Confluence in initial state.

Also, I would recommend to try the space import on lower instances first to confirm if everything is working as expected and once confirmed then import the same on production site.

I just tested to import a space to a test version and everything seems ok. Your advice of backup firstly and import on weekend is very reasonable. So I will take this advice as well.
