In sourcetree, version 3.4.18, a user shows as merging to the main branch and with it he committed a bunch of files he did not actually modify.
Another user had those files committed but had not yet pushed them to the main repo.
Any idea why one user shows as committing even though he never touched those files?

The user who did the merge must have permissions to merge another users commits. This would explain what you are seeing.
