@Eric Gurin this “unknown error” is fairly common with Rovo agents right now—usually not your config, but validation failing silently. A few things to check:

  • You have Rovo + Agent creation permissions
  • AI/Rovo features are enabled on the site
  • Try removing any external connectors or tools temporarily
  • Check for unsupported fields/formatting in instructions

If it still fails, open DevTools → Network tab when saving—often shows the real error. Otherwise, it’s likely a backend issue → Atlassian Support.

Hi @Eric Gurin

unfortunately I cannot replicate the issue.

Have you double checked that

  • You have Agent creation permissions
  • LLM features are activated on your site?

I wouldn't be surprised if some permission/feature thing doesn't actually hide Studio but surfaces as an unknown error right in the end.

If all that looks good, I think support.atlassian.com is the best way to go. I went ahead and asked the Support Rovo Agent. It came up with 3 more suggestions

  • Try clearing the Browser Cache
  • Wait and retry ;)
  • Simplify Instructions: If your agent has very long instructions (over 300 words) or more than 5 skills, try reducing them temporarily to see if it allows activation.

The last one is interesting and I've never heard of that limitation but would be interesting if that is something you're running into.
