MCP server: 'Site admin must authorize this app' error despite admin approval

Maximilian Seifert

I was able to use the MCP server a few weeks ago without any problems after creating an organization. Now, a few weeks later, I get this error message:

"Your site admin must authorize this app for the site '......atlassian.net' before the app can access your account."

I am the admin. I enabled everything in the admin config to test it and still get this error message. How hard can it be to add a button for admins that says "enable" and applies the correct setting if it isn't already set? The documentation is useless too — it just tells you to enable some things, and even after doing so, the Rovo MCP server still doesn't work. The AI-assisted helper doesn't even have the correct paths anymore when it tells you where to navigate.

I don't understand how a platform built for planning/developer crossover has such a poor integration method, and how fixing it isn't a priority.

Hi @Maximilian Seifert - welcome to the Community,

reading this Forum daily, the frustration is shared between users. Especially regarding MCP and Rovodev.

A few questions:

1) Do you have multiple sites in your Organization or just one?

2) Do you already see the advanced config options like the Permissions Tab?

3) How do you authenticate? Via Oauth? or Api Token?

Hello @Rebekka Heilmann _viadee_

First of all, thank you for answering. The whole word sludge was maybe a bit harsh, i was annoyed while writing it.

To answer your Questions.

1. My Organization has only one site.

2. I see advanced config options, i enabled them all even the A2A Beta protokoll to see if this might have been the problem.

3. I typically authenticate via Oauth but enabled token as well.

Best regards

Max
