External MCP connection to LeanIX Authentication failing

Our Architecture team are looking to connect a Rovo agent to our LeanIX instance via an external MCP connection. When trying to establish the connection we are getting an authentication error. Has anyone had success connecting to a SAP LeanIX external MCP server?

Hey @Cam Briggs ,

Have you followed these official articles when it comes to initial integration/configuration between LeanIX and Atlassian/MCP server: Getting started with the Atlassian Rovo MCP Server > specifically, this: Authentication and authorization?

Auth failures are often tied to session timeouts or incorrect config. settings.

Also, depending on whether you're using OAuth 2.1 or API tokens, you might need to enable API token authentication in Atlassian Administration (admin.atlassian.com > Rovo > Rovo MCP Server > Authentication)

There's also a dedicated forum discussion group around MCP, so you could browse a bit there as well: Atlassian Rovo MCP Server

Cheers,
Tobi

Hey @Cam Briggs to add to this --  SAP LeanIX does provide an official MCP Server, and Atlassian Rovo supports external MCP connections. However, I haven't seen any documentation confirming that the LeanIX MCP Server has been validated with Atlassian's External MCP implementation. Since both products implement MCP, they should be compatible in principle, but differences in authentication, authorization, or supported MCP features could still prevent a successful connection.

@Dr Valeri Colon _Connect Centric_ @Tomislav Tobijas  Thanks both, to update I was able to establish a successful connection. It appears to have been an issue on the LeanIX side, we used as custom MCP connection from Atlassian, just needed to adjust the URL to ensure it matched was LeanIX was expecting to see.
