Issues Activating Rovo Across Instances – Looking for Advice

Hi Rovo Users,

I work as a lecturer and regularly teach Jira, Confluence, and the full Atlassian tool suite to my students. I’d really like to integrate Rovo into my teaching as well.

We purchased Rovo for our business instance, paid for it, and the payment was processed. However, it suddenly stopped working. Atlassian informed us that it’s now only available for the Free plan, and not for Premium or Enterprise customers — which is completely unclear to me.

What’s even stranger is that many of my students work with free test instances: some have Rovo enabled, others don’t. Even when we configure the settings correctly so that Rovo should be available for the products in use, it still can’t be activated. It’s a complete mystery.

I’d be very happy if someone could help us figure this out so we can simply get Rovo activated. We paid for 25 CCs, but the payment is now being refunded. I also managed to activate Rovo in another new test instance, but again, some students could enable it, others couldn’t. Atlassian Support hasn’t been able to provide a proper answer.

Has anyone here experienced something similar? I’d really appreciate any advice or insights you might have.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Sebastian

Hi @Sebastian Fruchtzweig

Thank you for reaching out!

Let me try to help out!

Rovo is currently being rolled out in phases to all Atlassian Cloud customers, but not everyone has access yet, even if you’re on a Premium or Enterprise plan.

Here’s what’s important for you to know:

- Rovo is included at no extra cost for Premium and Enterprise plans of Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and Teamwork Collection. However, the rollout is happening in batches, and not all organizations/sites are enabled at the same time

- If you don’t see Rovo in your admin panel, or get errors when trying to activate it, your site likely hasn’t been included in the rollout yet. This is expected behaviour, and there’s no way to manually enable it or have Atlassian Support activate it ahead of schedule

- The phased rollout for Premium and Enterprise customers is scheduled between April and July 2025. Standard plan customers will get access later in 2025

- If you previously purchased Rovo as a standalone product, you should have received a refund and will get Rovo included with your plan once your site is enabled.

- Rovo’s rollout is site-specific, not user-specific. This means some test/free instances may have Rovo enabled while others do not, even if they’re set up the same way. Each site is enabled individually, and there can be a lag between sandboxes and production environments

- There is no workaround to force-enable Rovo on a site that hasn’t been included in the rollout. Even Atlassian Support cannot override this

What can you do?

- Wait for an email from Atlassian notifying you when Rovo is available for your site. Follow the instructions in that email to activate Rovo

-  If you want to express interest or potentially get earlier access, you can sign up for the Rovo waitlist (link available in Atlassian’s support documentation): https://support.atlassian.com/rovo/kb/how-to-access-and-check-rovo-availability-on-atlassian-cloud/

- If you’re using a Foundation Free license (for education/nonprofit), Rovo is also included, but the same phased rollout applies

- There is no action you or Atlassian Support can take to speed up activation. The process is fully automated and scheduled by Atlassian

Let me know if all this information helps you in any way!

Kindest regards,

Jovana
