Hey folks! Janessa here from the Rovo Team with a few quick tips for Rovo automation. ✨
Ever opened your Jira backlog and thought, “What is this ticket even about?” If you’ve ever felt lost in a sea of vague or overly long ticket titles, you’re not alone. Our team at Atlassian felt the pain too – until we decided to do something about it!
P.S. Massive kudos to @Stella Wang for the original idea and @Matthew Chen for bringing it to life via our internal blog-osphere!
Like many teams, we rely on help channels and Jira for our day-to-day work. But our BAU ticket backlog? Let’s just say it was a bit of a mess. Ticket titles were often cryptic, long-winded, or just plain confusing. Clicking into every ticket to figure out what’s going on?
No thanks.
Enter the Rovo BAU Ticket Summarizer – a simple automation that uses AI to turn those ticket-title nightmares into clear, concise, and actionable summaries. Imagine waking up, opening your backlog, and instantly knowing what each ticket is about.
Magic? Nope, just Rovo.
Automation triggers when a new ticket is created.
Rovo Agent reads the original summary and generates a short, sharp, one-sentence summary.
The ticket title is updated – no more walls of text, just clarity!
Since rolling this out, we’ve summarized over 240 tickets in just the first month, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Other teams have already jumped on board, and the results speak for themselves: less confusion, faster triage, and happier humans.

Here’s the quick setup:
Create a Jira automation rule for new issue creation.
Add the Rovo Agent integration with this prompt:
You are an expert at communication and summary.
Summarise the issue summary: {{issue.summary}}, when the ticket has been created and then edit the existing issue summary with the AI summarised message for better visibility. The AI summarised message should be short and distinct, follow any links using the content read plugin. The summary should be clear, concise (one sentence maximum) and should not include any links, should not reference !disturbed, and should ultimately retain the core message/failure/question asked by the original creator. The generated AI summary will be used as a new jira issue summary so it should be as short as possible.
Only return text that comes from summarising the issue summary, do not include any other system text that comes with Rovo if it's not related to the AI summary of issue summary itself
Replace the ticket summary with the AI-generated summary.
Sit back and enjoy your new, readable backlog! (But don’t relax too much – those tickets still need solving. 😘)
This is still a work in progress, and we’d love your thoughts. Have ideas to improve the prompt? Want to share your own automation tips? Drop your feedback below!
