Do self-hosted runners consume build minutes?

Good day, everyone.

We are currently considering to migrate a Jenkins-based CI/CD infrastructure to Bitbucket Pipelines and need clarification on build minute consumption for self-hosted runner since there is no mention about this in the pricing page and documentation. If we run pipelines exclusively on our own self-hosted runners, will the running pipelines consume the build minute quota?

Our current estimate is the build minutes will run out before the end of the month. In addition, we also have a strict requirement to run the pipelines on our own infrastructure. So we really considering to run self-hosted runners instead of using Bitbucket's infrastructure to run the pipelines (therefore, avoiding consuming the build minutes).

Any insights from the community or pointers to the relevant official documentation would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Regards,

D.A.

AFAIK no. the minutes billing applies only to atlassian-hosted runners (as opposed to self-hosted runners).

Anyways, there are other limits that can apply to your envirnoment as well: max number of steps, max time waiting for a free runner, max total time executing a pipeline...

Thanks for your response. I did some quick experiments by running self-hosted runner and measure the build minute usage. The build minute did not decrease after I run some pipelines on the self-hosted runners.

Hi @addianto

Welcome to community…

Runners allows you to run builds in Pipelines on your own infrastructure, and you won’t be charged for the build minutes used by your self-hosted runners. The following guides help you configure your operating system with Pipelines to use runners within your repositories.
https://support.atlassian.com/bitbucket-cloud/docs/runners/

If the build minutes did not decrease after running pipelines on self hosted runners, I would suggest you raise a request with Atlassian for further support and troubleshooting...

I hope this helps.

You don't pay for the build minutes, but you pay for your own SELF-hosted runners:

So if you are not already on bitbucket, DON'T do it. They will suck out your money even if you 100% use your own hardware. Just unbelievable
