We have recently started using the Courses LMS add-on for Confluence and I was wondering if the community has any best practices for structuring distinct learning pathways.

Problem to solve: Improve findability and create focused learning groups.

Initial thought: Create a separate cofluence site with icons that direct link to specific courses for that learning pathway.

Any feedback from this group?

Is your intended audience existing users, new users or both? If focusing on existing users only, something within Confluence might work. A separate page with reference links could go a long way to level-set capabilities amongst users across the board.

However, and coming from someone who struggled to get here in the first place, I think we need something more 'public' facing. I was wondering if there were any efforts underway to better broadcast what Confluence is, what it is used for and by who. That baseline information coupled with some direct links to learning paths could be beneficial.

Speaking of learning paths, has anyone teamed-up with the folks in LMS to build-out pathways? It would seem to behoove all if we leverage existing expertise and communication channels to ensure everyone who needs to know about Confluence has an opportunity to learn/discover what they're missing.

I won't rule out that my situation was unique and my brain just wasn't cooperating. It happens a lot with me, and according to my Wife. That said, Confluence seems like this weird black hole of knowledge around here. Those that use it swear by it...the rest are in the dark, lol. If there is a large push to move people in this direction (Confluence), the fine folks over in Change Management could prove priceless to getting everyone onboard as well.

The audience is a mix of new and existing users. Most of the learning content will be new (or significantly revises).

In talking to some peers at other organizations, it seems that dedicated sites with reference links is the most common solution.

Hello Anthony,

This is Hassen from the Smart Courses Team!

I think you’re using our app Smart Courses for Confluence.

The team is currently working on supporting Learning Paths. For the time being, you can use one of the following features as a workaround:

  • Add the next course’s link to the dashboard's custom message, which allows attendees to click the link and be redirected to the next course.
  • Add the Course List macro and the Course Card macro to a Confluence page and guide users to specific courses in your preferred order.
  • Assign users to the courses that they need to complete and require completion before a set due date.
  • From the course catalog, you can use the categories, labels and levels in combination to narrow down the list of courses.
  • Create courses in separate spaces for different learning tracks.

You can reach out to our support team for further details through this link.

Best regards,

Hassen
