Using Loom with Gmail

I've been led to believe that I can record a Loom video while inside my Gmail account. Are there any tutorials or instructional videos on how to do this?

Hi, @Barry Moniak - I think this is what you're looking for? https://support.atlassian.com/loom/docs/how-to-record-directly-from-your-gmail-thread/

If not, let me know what you're trying to accomplish and I can try to walk you through it! ☺️

Amanda,

Even though it's an extra step to record in Loom first and then attach it to the email, it seems to work very well.

I expect that when I upgrade the program, it will have better resolution at 4K and more controls over how I want the recording to look.

Yes, 4K is available on Loom Business, Business+ AI and Enterprise plans, but only with the desktop (Mac or PC) apps - https://support.atlassian.com/loom/docs/record-in-high-definition-hd/

You can see the other benefits of upgrading here: https://www.loom.com/pricing

I use blur, trimming and stitching videos, and edit by transcript all the time! I also really like the backgrounds, embedding links in videos, and the stylized captions.

Amanda,

You're wonderful... thank you.

I saw something about signing up for the Business Plan either through Atlassian or Loom, but it didn't explain the difference.

And does it even matter at this point?

I think anyone who upgrades now will do so through the Atlassian billing/admin area, but it's pretty self-explanatory!

Here's some useful guides: https://support.atlassian.com/loom/docs/understand-workspaces-roles-and-permissions/

I've upgraded to Business and now need to determine which settings are available. Are there any YouTube videos that explain how to use Loom effectively?

I'm also confused as to the floating control panels. The one that starts the recording isn't an issue because when I click on "start video," it gives me a few seconds to get ready. It's the one on the left that either ends or pauses the recording.

If I place it on the recording window right next to my face, it gets hidden as soon as the recording starts. I can drag it onto the recording window once the recording has started, but then I need to look away to grab it and drag it next to my face. Is there a way to fix this issue so I don't have to look away to end the video?

Other questions:

I can select 4K as my recording resolution, but it immediately goes down to 1080p. My Brio webcam is 4K, so why aren't I getting 4K on my recordings?

The recording window is quite large... is there a way to adjust this?

The Loom guides are found here: https://support.atlassian.com/loom/resources/ and they have a video overview here! I see lots of youtube videos, but don't have any specific ones I'd recommend. I'd definitely filter to videos from the last year or so since the platform has changed a lot, especially with the AI features.

I have the setting on to hide the recording controls in the resulting video and use keyboard shortcuts for more polished looking videos. See how here: https://support.atlassian.com/loom/docs/hide-the-recording-controls/

I wonder if any of these troubleshooting steps will help with the 4K issue? https://support.atlassian.com/loom/kb/adjust-and-troubleshoot-loom-video-recording-resolution-settings/

I'd be happy using the medium-sized round window if it didn't show the rest of my desktop in the playback. My monitor is 49 inches, so the recordings don't look very good when I use that cameo circle.

If I choose "Camera Only," the recording window is huge, and I can't figure out how to resize it.

Any suggestions?

Barry
