Hello community!
Does anyone know the current data storage location for Loom content? I've heard that Loom might offer data residency in Germany next year 2026. Can anyone confirm or share more details?
Thank you in advance!
Hi everyone, wanted to update you all that Loom Data Residency for Germany is officially live! All EMEA customers & All Enterprise customers should be able to provision a net new Loom workspace and set their data residency to Germany during provisioning time. Please let me know if you have any questions.
hi @Surbhi Lohia fab that's great news!!!
Can you please say that in normal terms? Do i need to go to settings in loom.com and is there a "country selector" or something? I just went there and there's nothing new.
Or are videos automatically loaded to a German DC when you're in the EU? it reads your IP or something and automatically loads it there?
There's no settings under My Workspace Workspace Settings DATA, etc.
I cannot create +1 workspace.
Thanks,
Gabrio

Hi @Gabrio Linari , I'm happy to walk you through with the steps below. You will need to do this via Admin Hub on Atlassian (not on the Loom app).
1. You need to be a customer that is based in EMEA or an Enterprise license customer
2. You need to set up a NEW loom site (highlighted below). You cannot change the data residency of an existing Loom workspace. If you create a new Loom workspace (through Admin Hub) you will be able to set the Data Residency to Germany that way.
3. You can confirm through Admin Hub where the data residency of your Loom site is set to.

thanks @Surbhi Lohia
I think i am missing the first bit, i came to this page with the "Data residency" but it's all empty and i don't know where you took the "SITES" page from to pin loom and then do new site etc etc
I am based in the EU, account reg EU and have the Business plan so should be available?
How do you put "loom" under "sites"? and then it will show under DATA residency i suppose? that's the bit i dont get
Where do you get "Create a new site" can you please send the full url directly.
thanks!

Hi @Surbhi Lohia thanks, I dug further into this and I think I’ve narrowed the issue down quite precisely now.
I am:
• EMEA based
• on the Loom Business plan
• Org/Admin level in Atlassian Admin
I can now see:
• the Loom app
• the existing Site
• the Data Residency section
However, there is still no option anywhere to:
• create a new site
• add another Loom workspace
• or start a provisioning flow where Germany residency can be selected
So unless I’m missing another hidden navigation path, it seems the actual “create new Loom site/workspace” capability itself is not enabled on my tenant yet.
Could you confirm if:
• this is still rolling out gradually
• requires an additional entitlement/flag
• or requires a different Atlassian admin role beyond standard Org Admin?
I think that’s the last missing piece 🙂
Thanks,
Gabrio

@Gabrio Linari please click "Add App" from there you should be able to create a new Loom site. Note if you create a new Loom site, and set the data residency to Germany, you will not be able to migrate/transfer the data from your existing Loom site to that new site.
Setting up a new Loom site is ideal for customers who have little to no content or usage in an existing workspace as we do not offer transfer or migration support to a new workspace.

Hi @Surbhi Lohia thanks, I got it working now and I can see the Germany residency selector 👍
However, I think the wording is a bit misleading for existing Loom customers.
When reading:
“You need to set up a NEW loom site… If you create a new Loom workspace…”
- Add App
- Teamwork Collection
- Create a New site (last option)
- Add a new name
- Data Location GERMANY / Frankfurt,
most people would assume this means simply creating another Loom workspace.
In practice, the flow actually provisions a completely new Atlassian environment and asks the customer to start a new billing/trial flow again, with no migration support for existing Loom videos/workspaces.
Starting fresh with videos stored in Germany is one thing, somewhat annoying but understandable. But what gives with the billing side? Do existing Loom Business customers really need to pay again / create a second paid environment just to use Germany residency for Loom videos?
I only wanted to store Loom videos in Germany, not spin up and potentially pay for an entirely separate Atlassian stack 🙂
Thanks again for the help,
Gabrio

Hi Daniele,
You're correct- Data Residency in Germany is on our roadmap for 2026. Additional details will be made available as the date gets a bit closer.

Thank you @Brittany Soinski and it was great meeting you at the Atlassian Team Event :) Quick question - do you know where Loom's default data residency is actually located? Is it the US by default? Thanks!

Yes- US by default!

Ciao Daniele,

Not sure where you got that information, but currently for Loom, there is no plans for the data residency:

Data residency can be enabled on the following cloud products; Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and Jira Product Discovery. |

Hi @Nikola Perisic thank you for your reply. I've found the information directly from the Atlassian Cloud Roadmap page:
Loom Data Residency in Germany
Does Loom use the same backend infrastructure as other Atlassian products (AWS), with the defaut region being the USA? There seems to be a lack of transparency on this topic.

@Daniele Tagliani thanks for the link. This is something that you would need to ask Atlassian support.
