Hi! I hope someone can help me.
So we have a paid plan subscription with Loom. Since there will be migration to Atlassian all creator lite in paid subscription will be transitioning to creator (paid user). However, we don't want to pay for them since mostly they only received link to view video but wanted them to have access on the workspace.
So the solution I am seeing right now, is just deactivating those users so that we won't paid. But, if they need access on video will just change the settings to public views
Or we can just downgrade to starter plan. Technically we are only 5 and usually only one person done most of the recording. But, what are the cons if we downgrade it?
Appreciate your help!
Hi @Hanna P
Thanks for coming to the Community to ask this question. We recommend that you deactivate Creator Lite users who you don't want to pay for on your next bill (at your discretion, based on their need to record videos). As mentioned above, deactivating them will allow you to keep any content that they have created.
You're right that you could downgrade to Free, however, you would significantly limit the number of videos and length of videos that you can record. Plus, you would lose all AI features and the ability to edit your videos.
All of your FAQs are documented in this article as well.
Thanks for recording!
Ellie
Hello, how are you? Regarding your question, your concern is valid: if everyone becomes a "Creator"/"paid user" during the migration, the bill will increase.
There are two main solutions:
Deactivate users who only watch
This way you don't pay for them.
The downsides:
If the user recorded videos and you delete/permanently remove the account, the videos may be removed as well (in legacy workspaces this happens – check the migration FAQ).

If you only "deactivate member" without deleting, the content typically remains, but the person loses access.
Keep few paid Creators (only those who record) and the rest as a free role
In many scenarios, the admin can:
leave 4–5 users as Creator/Admin (paid);
the rest as Creator Lite / Viewer (free), depending on whether they are in a legacy or Atlassian-managed environment.
This is typically done on the Plan & Billing / member management page.
Downsides:
In a 100% Atlassian-managed account, Creator Lite is not available on all plans (role details change), so you may not have the same "free Lites" model after migration. This point is important to clarify by looking at your account type.
If the goal is "no one besides 1–5 people records" and the rest only watch, it makes a lot of sense to minimize the number of paid Creators.
This would be a solution with greater control, but we would need to better understand the scenario regarding who creates videos and who only watches to manage it better.

@Ellie Eberly Thanks for this insightful answer. By the way, I just need clarification on this. We got this banner saying all creator lite are now paid. We don't want to do that. If we deactivate them they won't be included on the billing on February 8th right?

Loom become expensive since they're seat-based now when it comes to billing.

Since not all users needs to paid. Because not all needs to create a video mostly for viewing purposes. I feel like the essence of workspace has been removed
