Hey, I need to get repeat tasks workig in Jira asap please. We are a marketing team, no sprints. There are certain tasks that need to be repeated in certain periods of time.
Some only repeat 2-3 times, some will go on 'forever'.
Im figuring out Automation (after spending days on an app called The Scheduler which I could not make work either). I can find absolutely no documentation, no help articles, only some community entries that bear no real resemblance to what I want to achieve.
Is there any good person please in sight who can help me set this thing up properly?
Is it cloning an issue (like I have to set up 1 nusance of the issue then have it repeted according to the required schedule via cloning). Or do I do the whole thing from scratch in automation?
Thanks for all the help in advance.
Hi, @zoltan.foldes !
My team has developed Recurring Checklists and Report add-on for such a case. We also use this add-on for the marketing team. We have weekly and monthly checklists for every Marketing Manager. An example of a checklist is below
And the next pic is about how the checklist looks in the Jira issue (this task was created automatically)
Using this add-on you don`t need to create a lot of tasks connected to one topic, you can start a task with a checklist and repeat it by your custom schedule
Hi Zoltan,
Here is an article I wrote recently that you might find helpful.

It has actually given me an error message and as that it is nicely explained (not) what is going on...

hi @zoltan.foldes ,
I'm sure we can help you with this. Recurring tasks is pretty straightforward using the built-in automation. If you can articulate precisely what your requirements are we can likely give you the exact rule that you will need or something pretty close that will get you going. Also please leverage the automation documentation as it is quite good. Finally, be sure to click on the Library link in the automation panel as there may be an automation rule available that you can leverage as a starting point.

Thanks for reaching out Jack. Its quite easy what I wish to achieve:
there is a task that needs to be performed once every monday. How do I set it up with Automation?
Thanks

Hi Zoltan,
based on your input...
Note, there is much more you can do to customize this. For instance you could add a condition before the action such that you only create the new issue if the condition meet the criteria. For the action itself you can set the issue type, fill in certain fields, assign the issue etc.

Thx again Jack, truly appreciated:))
a couple of questions i f I may?
- issue type input says same type - same as what? I understand If I go with task, it will -hopefully-create tasks.
- also with assignee - there options referring to another issue - what is that issue pls?
- schedule create date / create isse due date - refers to when this task is being created by Automation of the created task or the due date when task should be performed. as there must be 2 date data involved here: 1 when this task is created 2, when the created task should be performed - or so it seems?
What is run rule? we just set when to runt his rule? why do i have to run it manully? or is the Run rule like a switch on button?
also if have 3 different tasks that need repeating - do I set up 3 rules? or only one will do?
Also I ran the rule but no issues were created, at least I cant see any anywhere - why is that?
thx again:)

what I threw together was just a quick example. Given that "scheduled" is used as a trigger here then you will want to actually choose the type of issue you wish to create, e.g. Task.
If you wish to assign the issue within the automation rule then you need to choose the assignee you wish to assign it to in this case.
can you please provide a screenshot of your current rule as I am getting a little bit lost with your questions. As I tried to explain earlier I need to fully understand what your requirements are. Your response to that was that it was rather simple. But as we are seeing here it is not as simple as it first appears. It all comes down to exactly what you are trying to accomplish. Understanding the details will indeed make it simple again. In your screenshots please ensure you include the expanded details of each component, such as, the trigger, any conditions, and your actions.

Also be sure that you are creating a rule in a specific project if indeed it is a specific project that you are focused on here. You can ensure this is the case by simply going into project settings in the specific project in question.

Just to clairify I chose a task in a specific project etc But still have no idea what 'Run Rule' is, should I click it after having created the rule or not?

Regarding your "Run rule" question, are referring to the screen below? Assuming so, the "run rule" is used to test out a schedule rule so that you don't have to wait for the schedule to trigger.
Given the Image you provided above I would expect that if the run rule is successful in creating a task then you will also see hey new task created at 6 PM this evening.
