User not receiving Email Notifications

Larette Fontenot April 8, 2019 edited

I have researched the support docs and community and am still unable to get email notifications.  Here's what I've done so far and still not receiving emails.

  • I am an admin
  • We use the default notification scheme, my team receives emails, just not me.
  • I have tried other users tagging me in comments and as a watcher
  • I verified with IT our server isn't blocking emails
  • I receive emails when IT invites me as a user
  • When I test it in notification helper it says I should receive emails
  • I get them when I setup my user to use Gmail, and will setup my Gmail to forward to my office email.

I am the scrum master managing 5 teams, I really need to figure this out.  Any help is appreciated.

It seems as if you have been pretty through here. If all others except you are receiving notifications here are my thoughts:

  1. check with IT to see if the emails appear at the server. I wonder if Junk/Spam Mail is a possibility here.
  2. Im guessing that this isn’t a situation where you are making comments etc. since you won’t receive notifications for your own actions. Unless you turn that on.
  3. Try adding yourself to one of the groups/roles where one of the users does receive emails.

@Larette Fontenot , did you figure it out? What was the cause??

Larette Fontenot April 8, 2019

No Jack I didn't.  I checked my groups and I am in the ones as my other team members, so that's not it.  It's not in Roles either because I am the system admin.

I believe it has to do with our email server and IT is looking into it.  Currently I am using my Gmail account and have a filter to forward them to my company address.  So far that's working and I'm getting LOTS of emails now.

Thank you for responding to my post!  Have a great Monday.

@Larette FontenotWhere you able to find the cause of this? We have end-users that have the same problem. It's very hard to find why they have it, so any info would help.

Hi @Marco Leoné [MusicReader] no I did not.  I created the work-around to go to my Gmail account.  I had my IT department do research and they never see any emails from Jira on our server.

check the Rendering option for the comment field. We had the issues that mentioned users did not get a notification email. email notifications were sent for assigning issues, just not for mentions. In the end it turned out to be the field rendering setting of Default text renderer it has to be Wiki Style Renderer to send out notifications. At least for 8.5.4. See this KB: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/configuring-renderers-938847270.html

The administrator account for our Jira Cloud is experiencing the same issue.

We were able to correct the issue by contacting Atlassian and having them whitelist my email address.
