How to migrate jira project from cloud to server

Dennis Bursy August 9, 2018

Hi everyone!

I want to migrate a jira project from our cloud version to our new server hosted version(7.10.1).

By now i know i must create a full backup from the jira cloud. Because of the version incompatibility i can't import directly one project to the target jira instance.

Therefore i have setup a 30-days test jira instance (7.11.1, is this already a problem?) to import the complete backup (system restore). My plan was to import the backup in the temp jira instance and create a full backup from the temp jira and then import one single project to the target jira.

But import the full backup doesen't work, because it says there is no valid License key.

I don't undestand how it works, must i insert the license key from our target jira?

The cloud version has more user than our  license package for the target jira, because we can not migrate all projects at the same time, so the other licenses we don't need at the moment.

Or is there a better / easier way to migrate just one project ?

best regards

Hi!

i'm sorry for the late answer..

The solution was simple:

I had to paste the license key (from the trial version) to the license field in the restore page.

best regards

Dennis

Hi @Dennis Bursy,

the procedure seems to be correct and the trial license is not a problem in this procedure. I already did this migration several times with trial and non-trial licenses.

Can you please attach a snapshot with the error? Is your installed server version the latest? Do yoy have the same Jira products in your server instance than you have in cloud?

Hello,

Do I understand correctly that you generated a trial license for 7.11.1 and when you import the Cloud backup to this server, you have this error? Is so, then it is a strange behaviour. The trial license allows restore backups. Actually it allows to do everything with your Jira as a non-trial license.
