Configure List view on work board to show status of issues/stories

In the classic board you could add the status to the Story so when the swim lanes are collapsed you could easily see which Stories are complete. I've just started using Jira v6.0.4 and can't see any obvious way to configure the status to display. Without going into detail, its really important that I am able to configure the story this way. Please advise how I can acheive this with v6.0.4.
