In-column sorting disabled in Kanban Board?

Kerstin Thiel March 13, 2024

Hi,

I have a Kanban Board in which I could sort until now. I did not change anything regarding the filter, but can't sort manually now.

Although there was a change to the project: we exchanged the workflow from a company defined one to one that we as users can maintain. The workflow itself is the same, with the same status and transitions.

The drag and drop between columns is working fine, but the drag and drop sorting within the columns is not.

What can I do/check to get the sorting back?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards K.

Hello @Kerstin Thiel

A user must have the "Schedule Issues" permission in order to change the Rank of an issue (drag and drop it in the backlog or within a column). Check if there has been a change in the allocation of that permission or, if the permission is allocated based on Roles of User Groups, to the membership of users in Roles and User Groups that have the permission.

Hi @Trudy Claspill  the rol eI have is project admin, so I should have that permission. There wasn't any changes to the roles or groups, too. However our project admins are not able to edit permissions. My project uses the Default Permission Scheme, Does that help?

Hello @Kerstin Thiel

Being assigned to the Administrator role in the project does not automatically give you the Schedule issues permission. The Permission Scheme associated with the project itself needs to be reviewed to check the allocation of that permission. The Jira Administrators may have changed the settings in the Permission Scheme.

As a Project Administrator are you able to go to Project Settings > Permissions, and view the Permission Scheme settings even if you are not able to edit them?

HI @Trudy Claspill all I see there is that this is assigned to my role:

Administer Projects

Ability to administer a project in Jira.

Extended project administration ENABLED

Grant extended project administration permissions.

Hi @Kerstin Thiel and welcome to the Community!

I know you said the filter hasn't changed, but can you just make sure it is ordered "by Rank"?

Usually this is the only thing that enables/disables sorting. The workflow should have nothing to do with it as I assume you have one status per column?

Hi @Rebekka Heilmann _viadee_ , sure, the filter is: project = <projectname here> ORDER BY Rank ASC
