How to increase numbers of days for completed issues in Jira projects

Hello,

I am new to Jira. How can I change/increase the number of days my completed issues show on my Jira project board? I think mine is currently defaulted (I don't even know how to check this) to showing issues completed within last 30 days but I want to see all completed issues since I don't have that many. I found answers from the community on how to change this in something called 'plans' or 'programs' but those screenshots did show the options available to me in my Jira board project.

Thanks,

Victoria

Hello @Victoria Vlad

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

We need a bit more information first.

Is your project a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? That information will show at the bottom of the navigation panel on the left.

Next, is your project a Software, Service, or Work Management project? If it is Software or Service, it will say so at the top of the navigation panel below the project name.

If it is a Work Management project, it will show navigation options across the top instead of in a panel on the left.

Last question - is the board a Scrum board or a Kanban board? If it is a Scrum board then you must be using sprints. Otherwise it is a Kanban board.

For a Work Management project you can't control how long the completed issues are shown on the board. They will be automatically hidden when they have been done for 14 days or more.

For Scrum boards the completed issues will be removed from the board display when the Sprint is closed.

For a Team Managed project Kanban board you can't control how long the completed issues are shown on the board. They will be automatically hidden when they have been done for 14 days or more.

For Company Managed Kanban boards you have some control over how long the completed issues display. You'll find those options by clicking on the ... button in the upper right corner of the board and selecting Board Settings.

Then you select the General tab.

Then scroll to the bottom of the screen to find the "Hide done issues older than" option

Hello Trudy,
To answer your questions:
1. my project is team-managed
2. not sure if my project is Software, Service, or Work Management project. This is what I see when I log in to Jira (my board is the circled one)Jira pic.JPG

3. I don't know if my board is Scrum or Kanban. I don't know much about Jira in general as my boss is the one who paid for the Jira access I & the rest of her team are all using. She tasked me with figuring out how to use Jira to capture & track customer requests & I created the board shown in the screen grab above. In reading through a lot of community posts & help articles, I think I may have created the board incorrectly though but again, not sure since Jira is new to me. We think my boss is our Jira admin since she's the one who has given us all access. She would like to make me an admin as well as her time is very limited but we don't know how to do that either. [sigh] I wish I could call someone at Jira, share my screen, then I would be able to better explain what I need & what my questions are.

"Business" is equivalent to "Work Management".

You can tell it is a Business/Work Management project also because the navigation options are displayed horizontally across the top of the screen, like the lavender screen image in my previous response.

Addressing your current situation, in a Business/Work Management project completed issues are automatically removed from the board when they have been completed for 14 or more days. That is not a configurable option.

If you are not a Jira Administrator but you were able to create the project/board then you are only able to create Team Managed projects. Only Jira Administrators can create Company Managed projects.

Team Managed vs. Company Managed is an architectural difference in Jira. When enabled, end users can create Team Managed projects. For Team Managed project the person who creates it, and any other users added to the Administrator role for that project, can make customizations to fields, issue types, and workflows. Company Managed projects can be created only by Jira Administrators, and customizations for those projects can be managed only by Jira Administrators.

There are also some functionality differences that apply to those two architectures.

Software vs. Service vs. Business/Work Management projects are used to serve different tracking purposes. Service projects are typically suited for help desk situations. Software projects are suited for software development where agile processes (i.e. Scrum and Kanban) are needed. Business/Work Management projects tend to be used by business process teams, like HR, Finance, and Legal, for task management. Each of these types of projects provide functionality geared towards its purpose.

If you all are new to Jira I would encourage you to go to the Atlassian University and take courses there to help you learn the basics. There are courses for Jira Fundamentals, Jira Project Administration for Cloud, and so on. This forum is not really the right place to get the training you need. It is oriented more at answering specific, focused questions.

You can also find quite a bit of information on Youtube, though it you are new to Jira you may have some difficulty formulating the correct search to get the information you need.

Your company could also look at engaging with an Atlassian Solution Partner for training and/or guidance on setting up projects to suite your needs. (Disclosure: I work for an Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner in North America.)

I hope the above information is helpful.

@Trudy Claspill Hi. In this response you gave me last year when I was a newbie to Jira, you recommended I engage with an Atlassian Solution Partner for training. I reached out to Eficode yesterday but have not heard back and my team needs to speak/consult with someone from Jira/Jira experience urgently. You mentioned you work for an Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner in NA...can you give me the name of your company so I can submit a formal request? Like I said, we need to consult with someone from Jira urgently (we will pay for the consult of course) as the needs of our company are rapidly changing and we need to decide soon if Jira is the tool we will continue using. Thank you.

Absolutely!

I work for Praecipio - https://praecipio.com . We are an Atlassian Platinum Solution partner.

However I don't know that I can guarantee a response within a single day. I'm asking about that now from the team that handles the requests submitted through our website, and to find out if there is any way to get a response expedited. I'll get back you as soon as I hear more.

@Victoria Vlad

Are you on LinkedIn? I can give you a link to the profile of one of our Account Executives who said he would respond to a DM there today if you sent one.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/mustbenice/

Or if you are willing to let me know the first and last name you would provide on the Contact Us form, I can provide that to him and he can look for your submission after you tell me you've submitted it.

We are reluctant to post our work emails on this publicly accessible site, since that could result in us getting subjected to spam emails from bad actors.

Please let me know which path you choose and I will alert our AE to your incoming contact.
