Hi,
I need some help to create a project plan with timeline and dependencies (Gantt chart) using Jira Roadmap.
I can show duration timelines at the epic level but that is completely isolated from the timelines of the tickets under that epic. My expectation is that the duration of epic is dependent to ticket durations as well as the dependencies between tickets.
Is that possible in Jira?
Also I am not able to visualize the dependencies between tickets/epics on Jira Roadmap. Any hints?
Thanks
Hi @Siamak Sartipi -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
The basic roadmap which comes with the free and standard licenses for Jira Cloud does not roll-up the information from the child issues. The placement of the Epics is based upon the dates in the Start Date and Due Date fields.
You could use Automation for Jira to build rules to automatically adjust those dates based upon the child issues to do what you asked.
I believe that the advanced roadmaps with the premium license has additional features regarding data rollup...although I do not use that product, so don't quote me on that information. :^)
Kind regards,
Bill
Thanks a lot @Bill Sheboy . This makes sense. I see a fully functional Gantt chart solution on Jira enterprise (other projects I used). So this could be something money can buy :)
But for now, I am continue looking for a project management tool with Gantt chart feature for free :)

For the dependencies, take a look at Suvarna's response.
In terms of seeing the dependencies, you'd have to manually link issues to each other. I'd suggest going through your Epic and linking the different stories / tasks and building your dependencies that way.

Thanks @Jacob Vu , As I replied to Suvarna, the dependency function is already enabled. Also the dependencies between tickets (e.g. blocks, blocked by) are already defined for all tickets in my epics. I just cannot see them in a typical Gannt chart visual format.

@Siamak Sartipi please click on View Settings in top right corner of Roadmap page and make sure Dependencies checkbox is selected.

Thanks @Suvarna Gaikwad for taking your time to provide this suggestion.
Actually that checkbox is already selected. I can see the dependencies as a drop down list, if I click the link icon on each timeline bar for each epic. So the dependencies are there, I just don't see a visual connection between epic timelines, as I can see in other Jira enterprise projects.
Also, the timelines are disconnected so when I increase the due date of a linked issue, nothing change on the overall timeline of the project.
Do you think it is because this is a premium feature?
