I want to filter tickets based on request type/issue to different service desk users on my account. Is this possible?

you can try something like this for example
project = "your_service_desk" AND Customer Request Type = "request_type" AND assignee = "assignee" (or reporter = "reporter" - depends what you are looking for)

Thanks Jakub that appears to do the trick for what I want it to do. Do you know if there's a way to customize the refined.site page so that I don't have a big plain box in the middle with the search bar and request types? I want to make that box smaller or be able to put some sort of customization on it.
