I downloaded JIRA and JIRA Service desk for at trial.  In JIRA I do not see JIRA service desk activated.  How do I do this?

Depends on what you've downloaded.

If you're on JIRA 6 or lower, then Service Desk is an add-on, which you can install via the plugin managager.

But, it's more likely that you're looking at JIRA 7, where Service Desk is a full Application and available in two ways:

  1.  As a standalone installation.  That installs JIRA with Service Desk fully installed witihin it.  All you need to do with that is check that your users are in the right groups
  2. As an application you add to JIRA Core using the application management link in JIRA and then, again check all the users/groups.

In other words, your "download" of JSD is either an application you can install in JIRA, or it's a full install where you don't need the original JIRA install!
