Hi Mark,

From looking at your error, it seems like you are encountering the same problem described in the KB InvalidSearchFilterException: Empty filter when Synchronising LDAP.

That KB explains a few different possible scenarios that can cause this kind of error and provides some additional steps on how you can work through them.   Try this first.  If you run into any problems with these steps, please let us know some more information about your setup, such as the values you have for the user and group object filters.
