Notification not received for issue status change

We have a new employee who has been set up as a customer in Jira Service Desk. For some reason, he has been receiving notifications of every issue that has been closed. I can find nothing that shows him to be part of a notification scheme or anything else that would make this happen. Any thoughts?

We found the cause and it was due to an email setting outside of Jira.
