Migrating from JIRA Server 7.0 using XML into Cloud

I want to know  if I can do an xml backup of JIRA 7.0 and upload into the Cloud system without issues.

Probably not, as that's way too old.  It might work, if it's a well kept, and uncustomised site with no apps that need to come across.

Hi Marcus,

Nic is correct.  In theory it might work in some cases, but we do not guarantee it.  In fact we have seen several cases where an upgrade is required first.  I would not attempt to import a Jira server 7.0 backup into our Cloud site today.  For most data sets, it just tends to have older and too different data structures than what our Cloud platform is expecting.  I would instead recommend that you upgrade Jira to the latest version first.  @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- that page you linked is a good resource about this.

The good news is that since you are already on 7.0, you should be able to upgrade directly to the latest version, which as of today is 8.15.0.  Please see the Supported platforms to make sure that your system supports this newer version.  Once you have upgraded to this version, it is also important to make sure that you have updated any/all plugins as these will also have potential upgradetasks that can bring your data up to the current expected version.   Once that is complete, you can then create a new XML backup and use that to import into Jira Cloud.

Thanks all, going to give a shot to 7.0 XML straight to cloud then if that fails attempt to upgrade to 7.6. The issue at hand is that the JIRA server is currently using Windows Server 2003 and SQL 2005............................. which have not taken on updates in YEARS - versions above 7.6 - require, as you know.. newer version of Windows, SQL, and Oracle..
