Manage automatic answer to signup in our Active Directory

Nathalie BRETIN November 8, 2019

Hello,

I would like to configure JIRA Service Desk in order to send an automatic email to the customer if the account (email) used is unknown or without permission in our Active Directory (AD).

I don't want to add internal user in JIRA. Only AD will manage.

Best regards,

Jean-Louis, jean-louis.oliviero@setra-conseil.com

Hi,

I understand that you are looking to have Jira Service Desk server handle a scenario in which a new user sends your service Desk an email, but without adding that user to the internal user directory or another directory.

If I have understood your request correctly, this is not something that Service Desk can do today.  In order for Jira and Service Desk mail handlers to be able to send email notifications to end users, those users have to already have an account in Jira that records that accounts email address.   It is possible that you can configure Jira Service Desk to allow for public signups, in which case end users can self service the account creation process.  However if you do not enable end users to create their own accounts, and you have restricted the project to only service users with an existing account, these new messages that come from other users will never be processed by Jira Service Desk.

You could setup Jira to use that Active Directory in a read/write fashion.  Doing this would permit anyone that can create an account for Jira or Service Desk to have that account created in AD.  If the AD user directory in Jira is the top ordered directory, then these new users would be able to create a new account in your AD site, which Jira could then use for Service Desk.   Is there a reason you don't want to let new users create accounts in the internal user directory of Jira or in the AD connected directory?   Essentially, Jira is going to expect to have that user account created before it will start sending mail to that user.

I hope this helps.  Please let me know if I have misunderstood any part of your request here.

Andy
