I'd like to know if there's a free tool that connects my Kanban board to a bot that sends messages to a messaging app, so the team is aware of tasks in progress and those that have just been completed.
Does something like that exist?

You can use Jira automation to send web requests to external services API. I had such experience with sending issue data to Slack, to notify teams about changes in issue.
