Is there any way to set the value of the Organizations field based on user group membership with the built-in automation?
I am having to convert a bunch of customer only accounts to atlassian accounts and it seems that for these to be associated to an organization i still have to add them to the organization.
It would awesome if i can add groups to a specific org or if i can setup a rule to edit the Organization field to something like: When issue created, if user belongs to XXX, set organization to 1234.

Automation does not support adding organization to tickets based on groups. Organization is meant to group customers while group membership is meant for grouping Jira users.
Using a CSV, you can use the method outlined in https://confluence.atlassian.com/confeval/jira-service-desk-evaluator-resources/jira-service-desk-bulk-add-customers to add users into organization in bulk.
