Import to Export

Anna Theodore February 26, 2025

I need a more in depth guide on how to perform Imports and Exports. I followed the available videos and guides on the Atlassian website with little luck.

My implementation- I tried to take an existing Asset, make a copy of that Asset, and import the data in the old asset into the new one.

I did this as a proof of concept for the Import function. The first step, exporting to a .csv, was successful, the copy of the asset was successful, and Jira said my import of that data was "successful" in the new copy asset. However, when you select said asset, none of the data is populated. Without a descriptive error message, there is nothing for me to work with to find the issue. Please put me in contact with someone who can either write EXPLICIT STEPS FOR THIS USE CASE, NOT JUST SEND ME THE LINKS I ALREADY FOUND ON ATLASSIAN DOCUMENTATION, or assign me a representative who is available to screen share. Thank you.

HI @Anna Theodore

Welcome to the community.

Can you show screenshots, custom field configurations of asset fields etc.

This will help community member on maybe helping to solve your issue

It should not matter what my custom field configs are, as the asset was fully copied. So the structure should be copied over.

Hi @Anna Theodore

On importing and you don't have set a structure, a structure will be created by the importer based on the import file.

Is your import structure set correctly.

On the exported data, where there references in the original data to other schemas or objecttypes in the exported objects?

If os you will need to adjust the import config to make sure these references are there and the references are correct in the CSV  you are importing.

The exported csv is a flat file, references are not exported as references, but flat.

To import this file again as a copy or update your will need to adjust the CSV.

And I am aware this is posted to an open form. But if Atlassian provides a personal representative to work with, that is helpful. Hence my comment on the screen share. Thank you.
