How to Automatically Add Request Participants when Creating an Issue

I'm trying this approach:

But it's not working for me, no idea if I'm entering custom field ID in a wrong way or what. The author says that the code "needs to be changed every time JIRA is upgraded as code can change behind the scenes". I tried it on JIRA 6.4.7 and now on 6.4.8, which is OK I think, judging from the time of the post's last update.

Anybody can help with that?

I believe that you can do this using the free plugin 'JIRA Suite Utilities'.  

On create, you would update the 'Request participants' field with the users you would like added.
