How can I add an additional approver to a request and force the approval email to fire?

Hi. We have a fairly standard approval workflow setup, the only difference being that we pull out the manager using the AD sync plugin at ticket creation time and set them as the approver by default. We've noticed that if we add an additional approver to the approvers field (say the manager is away) then the email doesn't fire for the additional persons added to the list, so they don't know they need to approve.

Looking closer on this one I believe the email doesn't fire because the status has not been transitioned into technically - it has stayed the same. If I transition out of that status then back into it then all the approvers get an email again.

Has anyone else experienced this and /or have any tips for how to work around this? It seems the options are either to introduce some wacky new status while the additional approvers are being added, or try to use one of the automation plugins to catch the additional approver being added.
