Create issues from insight objects

Deleted user July 21, 2022

Hello dear community,

I have one question.

Situation is that we want to use Jira Service Desk together with Insight as our Asset management tool and order program.

User is requesting for example a new laptop via the service Desk. To create objects in Insight with this is no problem, but we want to create now out of the Insight object a new ticket when we order this.

Does somebody has an idea how to properly configure and set this up?
Also is there a possibility that if we have 2 requests for the same asset, e.g. one request is 2 monitors and second request is 3, that that is properly displayed and summed up as open objects?

I would be glad for all help.

Thank you

You are a live saver :D

But when i use "objectType in objectTypeAndChildren(Artikelart) " as a function i only get results e.g. XPS opr HP ProBook, so stuff which i put in manually. I cannot select Monitor and so on.

Ah I see - you want to select the object type from the list you've already configured in Insight. I'm afraid I don't know how to select just the different object types, this may be a situation where it's okay to maintain a separate dropdown (I know, not ideal) of values if those values seldom change.

If this changes in the future or I learn of it I'll get back to you.

Hello @[deleted] , and welcome to the Community!

You could use an automation rule that is triggered when an object is created within a specific Insight schema. Then select an action that creates an issue.

Hey,

thank you very much that was really helpful!

I am now struggling with the setup of the custom fields....

I have set up my objects as references to another object. But i cannot seem to find the correct query.

When i try to filter now with objectType = Artikelart it shows no output as it seems to not be able to find laptop, monitor and phone. Some ideas?

Ah, you're very close! By default your IQL will only search for objects within the Artikelart object type. Laptop, Monitor, and Handy are separate object types even though they are children of Artikelart.

To search for objects inside children object types, you'll want to use the objectTypeAndChildren() function

Hope this helps

Just realized this is for Server, but the above documentation is Cloud - the function is available in both environments.

And what if i want to only display as a select field Laptop Monitor and Phone? and not the the objects inside?

My plan was to set up two fields. First field would be a select field to pick out Monitor laptop or phone and in the next field to be only able to select the objects inside e.g.

First select phone and then in the next field get displayed Iphone 12 or Samsung Galaxy

That is also possible, you would just need to adjust the IQL in the insight object field to read the value from another field.

Here's additional information on how to set that up. I've done it before so I can tell you that it will work (at least I did it in Cloud but the link I provided this time is for Server/DC).
