Create Customer with custom fields via REST API

I am looking for information on adding a Customer to JIRA service Desk via REST API. I have found the documentation here:

https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/service-desk/rest/#api-rest-servicedeskapi-customer-post

 

Is it possible to create a custom field for our Customers and store additional information in those fields via the REST API Customer POST to /rest/servicedeskapi/customer
