Not able to add contributors for free

Abdullah Al-Wadeiah January 9, 2024

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to get our startup to adopt JPD without increasing our costs.

What I would like to do is add stakeholders (such as team leads) as contributors to the project without consuming a license and without adding them to Jira Software. So I do not want to increase our spending at all.

I have read the relevant articles and watched the videos but they have not helped me in achieving this.

So far I have tried to add three stakeholders without providing them JPD or Jira access, and I have not added them to the JPD Contributors group (as instructed in the above Loom) but the users are only able to access the project in read-only mode and they cannot add ideas, comment, or add insights.

If I add these users to the Contributors group, they are counted as billable users for some reason!

Below is a screenshot of the Project Access screen for my JPD project. As you can see, there are errors for the three stakeholder accounts.

The only other change I made is setting the Contributors group as the default access group.

Please let me know if what I'm trying to do is possible. Thank you!

Hi @Abdullah Al-Wadeiah I think you may have given the contributors group product access to Jira Product Discovery, and consequently they are consuming a license.

The contributors group (which you have selected in a red box in your post) is a special group that we search to identify contributors. Your group should look like this below, the group should not have any product access. If the group has product access to JPD, you just need to remove JPD product access from the group and the problem should be solved.  Screenshot 2024-01-09 at 4.37.56 pm.png

@Rohan Swami This is what I see when I go to that group

The only thing I can do here is remove the user or click "Edit group's access" and if I click the that button then I get taken to the product access page (below)

Here the only thing I can do for the group is click "Show group's details" which just takes me to the previous page (Groups), make the group the default access group for JPD, or remove the group.

I don't see where I can do what you have mentioned. Please let me know if I'm on the wrong pages.

@Abdullah Al-Wadeiah we have slight different versions of admin platform which is why the screens don't line up exactly. In your example on the Product access page, remove the group the group from Jira Product Discovery.Screenshot 2024-01-09 at 1.52.00 PM.png

@Rohan Swami That fixed the problem! Thank you very much.

The last thing I had to do was enable idea creation for contributors to achieve what I wanted.
