JPD contributors can bypass required fields via global “Create” dialog - known issue?

Hi everyone,

we are currently using Jira Product Discovery Premium with contributors allowed to create ideas.

We configured a custom “Create idea” form with mandatory fields enabled (“Make all fields mandatory”).
This works correctly when contributors use the dedicated JPD idea creation flow.

However, we noticed that contributors can still create ideas through the global Jira “+ Create” dialog and bypass the required fields completely. In our case, users were able to:

  • create an idea with only a summary
  • skip mandatory fields
  • add/edit fields that were not intended for contributors

From our perspective, this creates a governance issue because the configured JPD intake form validation is not consistently enforced across all creation flows.

Questions:

  1. Is this a known limitation/bug in Jira Product Discovery?
  2. Is there an official feature request or public issue we can follow/watch?
  3. Is Atlassian planning to unify validation between the JPD intake form and the global Jira create dialog?
  4. Are there any recommended workarounds besides automation/rules?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Till, this is indeed a limitation that we plan to address. I don't have a ticket to give you but it's on our medium-term roadmap.
